CANYON FIRE STUDY

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

The CCEA board continues gathering data which they will submit to the Glendale Fire Department for a test of the affected streets in the canyon. The concern is the questionable ability of the department to move fire fighting equipment to the site of a fire or other emergency through some very narrow streets most of which have parking on both sides.

When applications for Variances and Conditional Use permits are processed through the city, they are reviewed by the interested city departments. A query sheet is sent by the Planning Department asking for feedback on the proposed building applications. In virtually all cases we have seen, the only areas of “great concern” is the requirement for fire sprinklers and fire resistant landscaping. There rarely, if ever, is a comment about the accessability of firefighting and/or other emergency equipment to the proposed site.

CCEA needs your help in compiling a list of specific areas to be tested. Please email to info@chevychaseestates.us (include ‘CCEA Fire Study’ in your subject line) and advise us of the canyon locations that you believe represent navigational hazards for large vehicles. Remember, a one-alarm response includes a ladder truck in addition to an engine and other emergency response vehicles.

And, most importantly, if you see smoke, don’t assume

someone else has notified the Fire Department.

Dial 911 immediately and report it.
